Consumer Action has made a submission to the ACCC Digital Platforms Inquiry Preliminary Report. The submission focuses primarily on the proposal to develop a general prohibition against unfair practices in the Australian Consumer Law. The submission argues such a prohibition will strengthen the consumer law and allow regulators to deal with practices that cause consumer detriment in complex markets, including online. The submission also supports the proposal to require clear opt-in to the use of personal information for targeted advertising purposes.
